Solukhumbu. Thirteen Nepal Police personnel who were deployed for rescue efforts during the Thame flood in Solukhmbu on August 16 have been awarded. The District Police Office, Solukhumbu honoured them today in recognition of their prompt roles in rescuing the locals trapped in the flood and saving their property as well.

Those honored are police inspector Laxman Giri, assistant sub-inspector Khemraj Khatiwada, and senior constable Deepak Kumar Katawal among others, said Office Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police, Dwarika Prasad Ghimire. Their efficient efforts in rescuing the survivors, mitigating the further risk and dissemination of information systems, and making the dwellers of low-lying areas alert to possible risk were laudable, he said. The August 16 Thame flood occurred at around 1:30 pm and the unusual disaster in the Everest region is said to have been caused by the outburst of two glacier lakes.

It completely damaged a school, a health post, two hotels, and 13 houses, inflicting partial damage on 10 houses. It also damaged a 950-kilowatt hydroelectricity project. The outburst site lies around nine kilometers away from the Thame Bazar.
