Migrant Resource Center Actively Rescuing Those Deceived in Foreign Employment

Dhorpatan – The Migrant Resource Center in Baglung has successfully rescued seven individuals who faced difficulties after going for foreign employment. Out of the 11 complaints received this fiscal year regarding such cases, seven have been resolved so far.
The center has mainly focused on rescuing workers who encountered problems in countries like Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Qatar, and Kuwait. Migrant Resource Center’s Information Officer and Consultant, Ganga Sharma Rijal, explained that workers faced issues like not receiving their wages on time and being unable to return to Nepal on leave. The center has collaborated with various organizations to resolve these issues.
According to Rijal, 90 complaints, including those related to fraud and deaths, have been received so far, with 41 cases being resolved. Out of the 54 fraud complaints, 17 have been successfully addressed. The center has managed to recover NPR 4,305,500, which was fraudulently taken by individuals posing as agents for foreign employment.
Rijal mentioned that most of the fraud cases were committed by individuals rather than manpower agencies. Since the month of Sawan, eight death-related complaints have been resolved, all of which have been addressed. She stated that most of the deaths occurred in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
The center works in close coordination with the District Administration Office, relevant municipalities, embassies of the concerned countries, the Foreign Employment Board, and the Consular Services Department in Kathmandu to resolve the problems of Nepali migrant workers. Rijal also shared that, among five complaints related to missing workers, one individual has been brought back into contact with their family.
Rijal highlighted that, in the case of a person missing in Malaysia, the center successfully facilitated contact between the individual and their family. In total, the center has recovered NPR 9,708,831 from fraud and unpaid wages, including those of deceased workers.
District Administrative Officer Netra Prasad Subedi noted that those who migrate illegally tend to face more problems. The District Administration Office regularly urges all citizens applying for passports to be more cautious when going abroad for employment or study.
He further added, “The majority of people who face death or difficulties abroad are from lower-income and less-educated backgrounds. Many cases involve suicides or deaths while working. The issues are often linked to a lack of awareness, and if people go abroad with a clear understanding of the legal aspects, where they are going, what work they will be doing, and which company they will be working for, many problems can be avoided.”
