Hosanna Sewakai Nepal’s Chairman Accused of Misusing Donor Funds for Luxury Cars and Real Estate

Kathmandu. It has been found that the non-governmental organization Hosanna Sewakai Nepal used organization money to buy two cars for the chairman Raju Sundas’s children. In similar vein, he has used the funds that the donor donated to help the kids and has also purchased a home and land in Surkhet.

Hosanna purchased a Mahindra Scorpio with the license plate B -01,024 CA 256 for the chairman and Kia Seltos for his daughter . Hosanna has received approval from the Social Welfare Council to work in the fields of education and health.

During the 079/80 fiscal year, Hosanna purchased a Mahindra Scorpio truck worth Rs 38 lakhs and Seltos for his daughter, all in the name of Raju’s son. The non-governmental organization is also paying the monthly installments for these two automobiles, which were purchased at its expense.

Raju’s daughter and son currently use both of these cars exclusively for private use. The daughter bought a Kia Seltos automobile, which currently has a market value between 52 lakhs and 90 lakhs rupees.

Raju has been squandering the donor’s money; he has paid the monthly installments from it as well as bought his son and daughter a car in installments.

The use of movable and immovable assets of non governmental organizations for private purposes is forbidden by the Social Welfare Rules, 2049, which are set forth for the operation of national and international non-governmental organizations. In a similar vein, there is a clause stating that the aid amount may only be used on connected topics with authorization.

The act has provisions that allow for the permit to be revoked in the event that the non-governmental organization violates both the Act and the current legislation. The permit itself will be revoked if the committee violates both these normas and the applicable laws and regulations, as specified in the Social Welfare norms, 2049, 13(4).
The audit report notes that Hosanna used the donor’s assistance funds to purchase a car under the chairman’s children’s name by classifying them as “wasteful expense.”

“We pointed out that it was wrong,” a chartered accountant participated in the audit said, “after it was found during the audit that Hosanna has purchased a vehicle for Chairman Raju’s children with the organization’s funds.”

Raju, who is accustomed to misusing the donor’s funds for capricious personal purposes, has pulled off yet another daring deed, adding a property to his name. He has used the organization’s funding to buy roughly eight acre plots of land in Chinchu, Surkhet under his name. On the land worth around 80 million rupees, there are also three one-story residences based on the current market value.

Raju Sundas, who has a family background where it’s difficult even to make ends meet, has spent the money provided by the donor to spend for the welfare of the children and has purchased an 8 acre plot of land in Surkhet worth about 80 million rupees and three single-family houses built on it,” a source told NepalWatch.

We made multiple attempts to get in touch with Sundas, the president of Hosanna, in order to learn more about this. However, he was unavailable. He also frequently switched out his own cell phone. Those who know him well say that because he frequently changes his phone number, it is hard to get n touch with him.

The council’s permanent director and information officer, Sanjay Kumar Mallik, stated that non-governmental organizations should not use their real estate-both real and immovable for private benefit.

According to him, council look into and take appropriate action if someone makes a complaint with supporting documentation. “No non-governmental organization s allowed to engage in unethical behavior, such as misusing donor assistance for personal gain. The council will look into in and take appropriate measure if someone has done that, he said.

Hosanna is a non-governmental organization that works in the fields of health and education with authorization form the Social Welfare Council. However, it is advancing Christianity and contesting the nation’s current constitution. In a similar vein, they have been paying their staff members cheap wages and presenting donors with fictitious personnel.
